Bhuvaneish Selvaraj

Dr. Bhuvaneish T Selvaraj a Chancellor’s fellow and emerging leader at Uk-Dementia Research Institute, University of Edinburgh. His research focus is on understanding the role of mechanism(s) neuron-glial interaction in health and its contribution in neurodegenerative disease with the specific focus on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. To achieve this he uses stem cell disease modelling, high throughput drug screening, patient cohorts.

Dr. Selvaraj is an engineering graduate from Anna University, India. He began his scientific research career completing a PhD in clinical neuroscience in the lab of Prof Michael Sendtner at University of Wurzburg, Germany where he elucidated non-canonical role of STAT3 transcription factor in modulating cytoskeletal dynamics leading to axonal regeneration. In 2014, he moved to Edinburgh to undertake post-doctoral research on human stem cell disease modelling of neurodegenerative disease. In 2020, he was awarded the Chancellor’s fellowship funded by Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic.
